The choreography isn’t as involved as it is in the movie, probably because a staged set is smaller than a film studio, but the film serves as an outline as they use their rain jackets in the dance and end the number tipping over the couch backwards before collapsing back into it.Īasen and Hoverson also have a lot of fun with Martan Gregoire as the diction coach when they unravel the verbal exercise, “Moses”. The three of them work well and have fun together on the classic “Good Morning,” as they dance around Don’s apartment. Luckily, his big number, “Make ‘Em Laugh,” featured more of his dancing and after that his mic seemed to work fine. The role is pure comic relief and Hoverson nails it with a broad portrayal, which is why it was so unfortunate that he was having microphone issues in the first act. What’s interesting about their portrayals is that Aasen plays his role with subtlety, like he’s acting in a movie, while Gette projects her voice, and talks quick like the old-time movie stars.Įven more pronounced than her is Tyler Hoverson as Don’s longtime friend and former Vaudeville partner, Cosmo.
